I used to create custom video thumbnails in High Sierra by copying an image and then going to file’s get more info tab and then pasting it in the top left corner icon. After migrating to Mojave 10.14, the image gets extremely pixalated, so the thumbnail becomes almost useless.

Not sure what you mean here. Custom icons like that seem to look fine when I try it. But where are you viewing the icons -- specifically? Like in what kind of Finder view or other situation? I looked on the Desktop (the only place I really see them myself) and they looked fine. And how are you creating the custom images -- what format and what resolution?
Thanks. I'm refering to "custom" video thumbnails (not to regular file icons). I manage many videos where I manually change the thumbnail to easily find the viedeo I'm looking for in the finder. I do this by capturing a specific frame within the video and setting in as a thumbnail by going to "more info" menu and pasting it at the top. The issue is that with Mojave, the thumbnail is with low res
Carlos: Yes, but:
1) where are you viewing the icon that it looks low-res? You can view file icons in so many places: the Desktop, Finder icons view, list view, column view, the new Gallery view and other places.
2) How are you making this icon? You said you are capturing the frame, but how? There are many ways to do that.
3) And when you capture, and paste it into a document (like Preview, New Document With Clipboard) is the image low res there? The answer to #3 could help determine if the problem is with your capture method.

1) In finder in several views (icons view and in gallery)
2) Generally I use screen capure (the same way I used to do it in High Sierra with no issues). I also tried copying any random image form internet with the same result when pasting it.
3) The image gets the low res when I paste it in the file (show more info menu). If I paste the capured image in a different program (like email) the resolution is fine.
So your answer to #2 is interesting. Are you actually capturing a portion of the screen using a screen grab? Don't do that as you get pixel-for-pixel representations of what you see on the screen. Instead, grab the actual frame. You can do this by double-clicking to open the video in QuickTime Player, then going to the frame, then Command+C.
But that issue aside, I see what you mean. It is hard to tell with the icons in normal view size, but if I enlarge the icons I can see that it doesn't look all that great.
So, perhaps a bug in Mojave. I'd report it.
Thanks a lot. I did as you mention and the result is the same (with QuickTime). With small icon view in finder it's hard to tell, but when enlarged it's really noticeable.
I'm having the same problem. Before I updated to Mojave I would Command+C images off of Chrome, right click the video file, Get Info, and Command+V in the top left file icon. With High Sierra my thumbnails were very clear and sharp looking. After updating to Mojave when I go through the same process the thumbnail is very pixelated. That, and all of my files on my external hard drive take forever to load, where before the update they loaded instantly. Is this a bug?
