The “Back to Email” link from Safari to Mail is not in the left hand corner of my Safari window. How do I get it back.

I assume you mean in iOS? Impossible for me to guess why it isn't there for you. It should only appear when you tap a link from inside a Mail message. But it isn't a big deal -- you can just go back to the Mail app normally when it happens.
