I have several old video 8 cassettes with family movies taken with a Sony CCD-TR55E camcorder which is still working fine, and want to transfer to my MacBook Pro mid 2012 using OS X 10.7.5 to make the films more portable. The ability to edit is desirable but not essential.
I recently saw a Silvercrest USB video grabber in Lidl and couldn’t resist the temptation to try it. Although this asks for Windows 7, 8 or 10 I assumed I could download software suitable for a Mac.
I downloaded both Debut video capture software and Wondershare DVD creator and still get no response when it’s all connected up. I have iMovie ’11 version 9.0.5. Any ideas how to solve?

It sounds like the device you bought simply wasn't compatible with Macs -- or at least the company doesn't provide software for Macs, so you are out of luck. There may be a way around it, but you'd need to ask someone from that company or someone who has one of those devices and has done it with a Mac. I can't be of any help there. Do they offer support? Contact them? Maybe they have a forum on their site?
Otherwise, you'll need to buy a device that IS Mac compatible. If your camcorder only offers SD video out (RCA jacks) then you'll need a device that uses those. Shouldn't be a problem. Just get the right one and you are set.
You may run into an issue being so out-of-date with your macOS -- why are you still running the very old 10.7? A device you get may have software that requires you to be up-to-date. Not to mention using a very old version of iMovie too.

I looked for assistance from Lidl/Silvercrest to no avail, so I've decided to take it back and get a Mac-suitable video grabber through Amazon. I'll also upgrade my Mac OS which I am continually reminded is a bit dated!
