How do I open an iPhone notes DB file on my laptop

I took extensive notes in iphone notes, then lost the iphone. However I can extract the .db file from my backup, I just cant see how to open it on the laptop as I dont have a database app. What do you recommend?

You can try opening it up in a plain text editor to see if the text is there -- TextWrangler or something like it. I think the proper way is to wait until you have a new iPhone and restore it from a backup.
Of course, normally, the notes sync with Mail and you'd have copies of those notes in Mail. But I'm guessing that you don't have those for some reason.

I am also looking for a way to view a .db file extracted from an iPhone backup. In this case, I am a parent looking to spot check my child's SMS usage. All available parental monitoring software for iPhone requires that you jailbreak the phone, which I'm unwilling to do. An Apple Expert at my local store suggested extracting the backup. This will only work if I can open the file. Any suggestions?

Try using a text editor like TextWrangler.
