Just select the photo and press the Delete key.
This puts it in the Recently Deleted area. You can get to that in the left sidebar, or by using View, Photos, Recently Deleted.
Here they will remain until 30 days go by and then they will be permanently gone. It is a "safety net" to make sure you don't accidentally delete something with just one action.
If you want to also clear the photo from the Recently Deleted area and not wait the 30 days, you can select it, then click the button at the top to Delete it right there and then. It will be gone forever at that point.

Gary, do you know of any app that will securely delete files? When purging the SSD, what happens to the deleted files? Are they recoverable, and opening you up for a breach? Thank you.

Gary: I just did a video on this. Basically, you don't have to worry about that on an SSD. https://macmost.com/do-you-need-to-secure-wipe-a-mac-drive.html
