I have many, many files in my Pictures folder (jpg, jpeg, png, gif) that I want to put into my Photo albums. Can you help me discover how I can do this?
I am on an iMac, 3.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core I& with 16GB 1867 MHz DDR3 running macOS Catalina Version 10.15.3
Your help/advice would be most appreciated.

So the pictures are just there as files in your Pictures folder? And you want to move them into your Photos app's library?
Just drag and drop. Launch Photos, then drag and drop the files into it. Try it with one to see. Then select them all, or in groups, and drag and drop them in.
