How Do I Remove Archived Email Addresses Saved In the MacMail System?

How do I remove archived email addresses saved in the MacMail (v9.3) system for contacts that have changed their email address? For example, in the “To” field if you start typoing a person’s name, a previously used address will auto populate the field, but what if that address is not use any more? Is there any way to have this system reference to the old email address deleted? I’m using El Capitan (10.11.6) on a mid 2012 Macbook Pro. By the way, I could not find a way to send you a screen shot of the problem.

First, make sure that the email address doesn't exist somewhere in your Contacts app. That is one place where it can get these email addresses.
Then, go to the Window menu of the Mail app, and select Previous Recipients. Here you can view and remove email addresses that are used in this way.

Gary, thanks so much! I had no idea there was a "remove from list" option in Window>Previous Recipients. I was able to quickly remove the old address from the list and this should keep me from mistakenly using it ever again. Thanks again!
