How Do I Stop Auto-backups Of My iPhone To My MacBook Pro?

I want to stop my iPhone running iOS 14.2 automatically backing up to my MacBook Pro running MacOS BigSur build 20A5359g.

I used to be able to turn this off and do backups when I wanted to do them; now every time I plug my phone into my computer it backs up, whether I want it to or not.

Connect your iPhone to your MacBook Pro. In the Finder click on the iPhone in the left sidebar under Locations. Then click General at the top. Then uncheck "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected."

Thank you. I would never have connected "sync" and "backup". To me they are two distinct operations. May you be blessed with a thousand pumpkins for your helpfulness.
