Often on my iPhone XS I accidentally pocket dial someone. Is there a way to not have that happen and still be able to have my maps and directions running? Hope that is clear enough. Thanks

I'm not sure how you are getting accidental phone calls. Don't you lock your phone before you put it in your pocket? Locking your phone won't turn off navigation. Just start the navigation, lock the phone, and put it in your pocket. You can still hear the navigation commands.
