How Do I Synch Photos Please?

I am trying to synch the photos on my iPhone with those on my MacBook Pro please. I thought I had tried everything but it still won’t work and I am concerned as I do not want to lose all the photos on my iPhone.
Thanks in advance for any help you are able to give me.

You mentioned that you "tried everything" -- what did you try exactly and what didn't work? Be specific with all of the details.

There are a few ways to do this. One is to simply use iCloud Photo Library. When you turn this on on both your devices, all of the photos in your Photos app libraries will sync and merge. And then they will continue to do so automatically.

The older method is to connect your iPhone to your Mac with a cable and import the photos into the Photos app. You have to do this manually each time you want to get photos from your iPhone to your Mac.

Apologises for not being more specific. By everything I mean that I have turned on iCloud photos on both my iPhone and my MacBook Pro. Sadly they don't seem to be 'speaking' to each other!
Everything else is connected, emails, notes, contacts etc. So now I am unaware of what route to take next, any guidance would be appreciated.
    Many thanks

Hard to say what could be wrong without a firsthand look.
Do the photos appear when you check iCloud.com? The ones from your Mac? From Your iPhone? Both?
Is the iPhone charged, connected to power and on WiFi?
You may need to go to the Genius Bar to have them check over all of your settings.

I'm new to the group but definitely enjoying the tutorials and forum help. My wife and I both have iPhones and we each have unique apple ids. I initially setup two iCloud accounts to possibly keep pictures separated but I think it would be better to merge the pictures into one iCloud Photo library so I can take advantage of the Photo app and only need the free 5GB space for her phone backup. Is that a good idea and is there a way to do that? Thank you. Denny

Denny: Not sure what you are asking. Yes, it is a good idea to have one Apple ID per person. I wouldn't do it any other way. Using iCloud Photo library is also a good idea.

Gary, sorry about the confusion, let me try it this way, on my Mac I am just getting my photos uploaded and not my wife's. I was wondering if there was a way to merge both phone's photo libraries on my MAC so I can use the photo app.

Denny: There’s no good way to do that, unfortunately. You could both decide to just load all images on your account, but then she couldn’t view them easily and would have to load them on to the Mac with a sync.
You can create a shared album and use that, but I’m not sure what would happen if you stick all (thousands?) of photos in there. Might be something to try.
