I have always used my own passwords and kept a copy of them for reference in my secure password file. Now things are getting more complicated. I’m using a Macbook Pro, OS 10.14.6.
Today, when a site asks me for a new password, Apple also comes up with a suggestion for a strong, complex password. If I were to use the Apple generated passwords, is it possible to copy them and keep them in my secure password file for future reference? I know that the password will autofill when I go to a site that was previously used, but I want a hard copy just in case.

Actually, thing are simpler. Your Mac is doing most of the work for you.
If you use the generated password, or make your own (but use the generated one) it will be saved and Safari can autofill it the next time it is needed. You can also see it in Safari, Preferences, Passwords. You can look there at any time. Plus, they are encrypted there.
You can select them and copy them if you like, and paste into your own file.

I do a similar thing to Ralph, so Gary, your information is very useful. However, although I can select multiple lines, I can only copy one line at a time. Is there a workaround, please? I am using Safari 12.1.2.
Jane: No workaround for that. It is probably for security reasons, so someone can't jump into a cubicle at work while another person is getting coffee and grab all of the passwords in 3 seconds.
