I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro and I’m using an external keyboard with a numberpad (Keychron K1).
I’m trying to take a snip screenshot with shift+command+4 but the shortcut only works with the “4” key located above the letter keys and not the numberpad “4” key to the right of the letter keys.

So the keys on a number pad are distinctly different keys than the numbers on the main part of the keyboard, at least as far as the computer is concerned. One is a "4" and the other is "NUMPAD 4."
But you can certainly use those keys for shortcuts. In fact, since they are recognized as different keys, you can assign different shortcuts to Shift+Command+4 and Shift+Command+NUMPAD 4.
Go to System Preferences, Keyboard, Shortcuts. Then click on the shortcut next to the item you want to change. Then use the key combination but with the keypad. It will look the same since System Preferences doesn't show "NUMPAD" next to the keys. But you can change Shift+Command+4 to be Shift+Command+4 (but the keypad 4).
Unfortunately, you can't assign the same shortcut to two key combinations though.
