iPad Air 2 — iOS 9
When I upgraded to OS 9 I didn’t specify a Passcode and have been using the iPad successfully without having to enter a Passcode ever since.
Instructions about upgrading to iOS 10 always has “Enter Passcode”.
Since I am not now using a Passcode can I upgrade to “10” and not have to use a Passcode as I have been doing?
Will “10” even install without a Passcode? I do not want to end up with a useless iPad.
I understand the security advantages of a Passcode but there is no need for one in my situation.

I can't imagine ANY situation where you don't need a passcode. If you operate an iPad or any device without any kind of security, then it is an open book. Any websites you log into, any information you have stored on your iPad, it is all available to anyone who can get their hands on it. Even something as simple as an email account -- it can be extremely bad to have someone else gain access to it.
That being said, you certainly can skip entering a passcode or remove it from the device. I still can't imagine why you would want to do this. I strongly advise against it.

Like I said, there's no need for a Passcode in this situation. It's just an annoyance. The fear of upgrading to OS 10 was not having a Passcode to enter. Good to know that leaving that step blank won't prevent the application from installing.
