I have all my photos in disaray on my macbook of 1 year, and pc and laptop of over 10 or so years. Would a photostick I saw advertised on the web be a good choice for downloading photos onto, is it safe, organised in folders etc. Thank you.

I've never heard of it before. Looking into it, it just seems to be an overpriced USB thumb drive with an app that takes your photos from your iPhone and moves them to this drive. I don't see how this would help you organize anything. It seems to mostly be a product for people that have run out of space for their photos on their phones and refuse to use iCloud (or similar cloud service) to solve the problem. And I also see a problem where you are placing all of your photos in one place which can be easily lost or suffer a hardware failure. I don't like that at all.
If you want to organize your photos, I would load them all into the Photos app. Then you can organize away with albums, keyword tags, faces, etc. Use iCloud to keep it synced between your Apple devices so you can access your photos anywhere.
If you are using a non-Apple device too, then maybe consider Google's equivalent cloud solution for photos.
If anyone has used this Photostick thing, I'd appreciate your input in the comments below.

I use a Sandisk iXpand that does indeed automatically backup your photos from an iPhone when you plug it in and has a USB connector at the other end. It is primarily to free up iPhone space but I use iCloud anyway so it's just an extra dimension to backup photos. I also use Backblaze and time machine so I guess it's being over cautious. Never heard of Photostick.
Bought it to collect all my precious photos from two Macs and an Ipad.
My one-year-old Mac Pro did not recognize it - when plugged in my 5-year-old Mac Air it loaded it and commenced work- it seemed to keep going - flashing light - after two days I unplugged it - when replugged it did not recognize it.
Unable to open it to see what was on it - so gave up!
Will retry when spare time allows.
PS I am in UK and was charged an extra £16 postage and Customs.
I have the Photostick 128 GB. I don’t know if it works. The photostick icon comes up, but I I don’t know if it is running ? The circle arrow icon doesn’t show it’s running . Good choice ? Who knows. Expensive. Yes, especially if it doesn’t work !
The PhotoStick is a total rip-off. It is an elaborate scam and I fell for it. I really would like to find a way of pursuing these people - who seem to operate out of the US, but since everything else about them and their product is a lie this may not be so. Don't waste your money.
