MP3 to AAC conversion

In a recent episode of MacMost Now, Gary discussed the various iTunes file formats. I would like to convert my MP3s to AAC Audio. Would it be best to ask iTunes to do the conversion or would it be best to return to the original CDs and re-rip them ? Or does it matter either way ?

If you have the time, it would be best to do it from the original CDs. You'll get better quality that way. But whether it is enough for your ears to notice, that's hard to say.

If you are going back to the original CD and copying in AAC, what settings (kbps) would your recommend

It depends. It is quality vs file size. Test out some settings yourself to see what you like.
