PowerPC processors

Dear Gary,

I would like to know the answer to this question:

Are PowerPC Macs out of date?

Yours sincerely,

Teddy!

In my opionion, yes. Very much so. Apple hasn't made a PowerPC Mac in years. Snow Leopard does not run on them. I would say that qualifies them as being out-of-date and obsolete.

I'd say it depends on what you want to do with your Mac. If you just want to surf the web and do email, then pretty much any Mac will work for you. However if you want to keep up with the ever changing Internet then you will find that eventually you can't do things on the web that you want to. Web content is increasingly going towards streaming media and video content. Older slower Macs won't be able to keep up. You also may find that software updates required to run newer software aren't available on your Mac. Unfortunately that requires a processor and software upgrade.

So back to my original point, if your Mac works fine for what you want to do then stick with it. However, if you need to change with technology then you have no choice but to upgrade.

      Macman's two cents...
