I have a problem with the sort order in Photos.
After a holiday in New Zealand and Australia I have loads of photos taken with two iPhones and a Nikon D7200, and want to manage them in Photos.
I use iCloud Photo Library, so photos taken with my iPhone Xs Max is automatically uploaded. My wife’s iPhone 6s’s photos are transferred to my MacBook Pro by cable, and photos taken with my DSLR is imported via the card reader.
The two iPhone’s photos are in right order, but the DSLR photos are not in right order. They are in correct date order, but the time order is more random. Sometimes just scattered in between the iPhone photos, and sometimes in a “block” after iPhone photos. So for example the same mountain photographed by both iPhone and DSLR will turn up different placed in the Moments tab.
I have checked right time is set in camera (checked EXIF info).
I use the Moments/Collections/Year section of Photos. I know the All Photos section is sorted by time ADDED.

You checked the time in the camera, but what about the time of those photos? Select an iPhone photo and a DSLR photo taken at almost the same time. What does it say in Photos about the time for each?
I suspect it is a time zone issue. While your iPhones were always adjusting to the local time automatically, your DSLR would not do that unless you meticulously changed the clock on it as you moved between time zones.
So it may come down to selecting all of the DSLR photos in a location and adjusting the time on those to match the time zone.

There's more to the story that wouldn't fit above.
The camera's display broke when we were in NZ, so I couldn't change the time from NZ to AUS (and to Singapore) time. But I changed the time in Photos when I had imported the pictures. I thought then, that the photos would snap into place, but unfortunately they didn't.
I found an app to my Mac, ImageExifEditorFree, to check the info in the files, and they seem ok.
What to try next?
Morten: Hard to say without seeing it. I would check those dates carefully in Photos. Focus on one photo to figure it out. Using an app to mess with the actual metadata inside the photo could cause more issues. Stick with changing the time inside Photos. Change the time to the proper time and see if it shows up correctly. Experiment with that time on that one photo. Once you get it right for that photo, apply your solution to the others.

I have changed det time stamps on the photos that had wrong time. From NZ to AUS I changed -2 h and the ones from Singapore I changed -5 h, so I know all time stamps are correct. And date and time shows up correct in Photos, when I use cmd+I. When I arrow my way through the photos, the photos from the morning (DSLR) still comes after the ones from the evening (iPhones). I’m confused...
Morten: When you go to change the time, and you changing the time, or changing the time zone?

Just made a "funny" discovery. When I look at my photos on iPhone/iPad, the displayed date and time is wrong, but for iPhone photos ONLY.
Example: A photo with sunlight says 30. dec. 11.41 in Photos on the Mac. When I find the very same photo on iOS the time stamp says 29. dec. 23.41. So in iOS the time is MINUS 12 hours ... But why is it not so on the Mac?
The DSLR photos are all time stamped correctly, both on iOS and Mac
Morten: You are just going to have to keep working with it. Keep in mind that it takes time for Photos to sync, so a change on one machine won't be immediately available on the others. Focus on getting it right by playing with the time and time zone. If you still can't figure it out, then you may have to visit the Genius Bar for a firsthand look.
I think it's a bug in iOS that somehow changes the time stamp (NZ time zone) in the photo to the time at my home time zone (Denmark, Central Europe). But in Photos on Mac, every photo detail is correct (date and time), only the sorting is wrong. Also in icloud.com everything is correct, except the sorting. I guess I will stick to making Album(s) where I can rearrange the order. Some editing is needed anyway. We don't have Apple Stores in Denmark, so no Genius Bar. Thanks for your time :-)
In app Photos on MacBook, to see order by date taken. Click on Photos in the Left Nav, then click on Moments in the top nav, then they are in order on my Mac. BUT one weird thing. Getting videos and images from iPhone, then downloaded from iCloud, Photos puts all videos on a given day before all the images, for that day, it's the timezone of my home (CT USA) instead of Rwandan time. I edited the time zone of the videos but it doesn't correct the sort. iCloud does sort them correctly. Any ideas?
Myrna: Not sure what could be causing that, sorry. I don't keep videos in my Photos library myself, so it is hard for me to test.
