What Activities On iPhone Constitute Data Use?

We presently use Xfinity for our mobile iPhones. Since we primarily use it for texting and calling we are only signed up for 3Gb.
Recently they are informing me that we are close to using all our Gb.
When I ask for examples I don’t get a square answer.
can you explain what activities on iPhone constitute Gb use Gb use vs. non-Gb use?

Why:
1] to learn and understand
2] To see if Xfinity is trying to induce me to raising my Gb limit and thus pay more

They don't know which apps on your iPhone are using the data. And a good thing too, as that would be a bit of a privacy issue.

On your iPhone (and also all of them), go to Settings, Cellular. Scroll down. You should see a section that shows you apps and the amount of data they have used. See what is using the most.

Chances are these numbers have been adding up for a long time. Scroll to the bottom as you'll see the "Last Reset" date. You can "Reset Statistics" right there too, to start tracking fresh and then wait a few days or weeks to see what is currently using the most.
