Any Free Open Source “midnight Commander” Like File Managers for iMac?

Am new to mac’s ( macOS Catalina 10.15.4 ) and want a “midnight commander” like file manager. ( want the dual-pane interface ) Have used them on my other computer OS’s and like them. Tried the App Store but most are $9 or more, with ratings of 2 or not so good comments. Looked at mucommander today and after md5 check get a message its not on apples list. Thank you Gary for the videos.

I'm not familiar with that app, but if it is dual-pane you want, why not just open up two windows with the Finder? Put them side-by side. You can even do a split view with one Finder window on the left, and other on the right.

The Finder on a Mac is very powerful. As a super-higher end power user I don't find it necessary to use any sort of other file manager. Since you are new to Mac, maybe you are assuming you need something more. But I urge you to try just using the Finder.

Thanks, I will try that today. I now use finder windows side-by side to move files to USB, SD cards or my Backup drive. Did not think of finder windows them side-by side for other things. Thank you, loved the video about double exposure images, on my list to try.
