Can I Have Mojave and Catalina Boot Disks On Same iMac?

My scanner is 32 bit and I’ll have to buy a new scanner if I move to Catalina. Can I use both Mojave and Catalina on same iMac?

You can, but it will take some expertise, a lot of work, and a lot of disk space. It is probably cheaper (time=money) to just get a new scanner or some other option (like scanning using your iPhone).

Which scanner do you have? Have you looked into third-party solutions? I know if I wanted to keep using my Fujitsu I could just buy software from another company for much less than the cost of a new scanner. But instead I just hooked it up to an old Mac that I had in the closet and will use it that way if needed.

Thanks so much, especially for the quick reply. I love my Fujitsu Scansnap S1500, but they won't support it anymore. The newer replacement will be just over $400. What software solution exists?

David: I have seen one called VueScan and another called ExactScan. I haven't tried either. I am simply using my iPhone to scan anything less than 10 pages and that old Mac for anything more (after complaining to whomever sent me the paper document that they shouldn't do that).

I found Vuescan. Thanks for the tip! I think I will become a paying member.

David: Let me know how well it works. I'm curious and I get asked about this a lot. Would like to know whether or not I should be recommending it to others too.
