I currently use a 2012 MacBook pro 13″ (Catalina). Since working at home, I would like a bit of a change. I would like to see my screen on a different monitor. The Flat Screen TV has HDMI as well as other inputs. Years ago I was able to do this with my 1999 laptop. What cables would I need to order and how would I get the screen to transfer over. Thanks

You sure can. What cable you need depends on the connection you have on your MacBook. From that era there is probably a mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt 2) connector? You'd need to look. If so, then just get a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable.
There's nothing special you need to do. This is just like connecting to a projector to do a presentation. Plug it in and it will work. Use System Preferences, Displays to set things up like you want.
Great. Is the Thunderbolt the small lightning bolt or the "Y" I have both. Where would I get this cord from.
Ken: Lighting symbol. The "Y" is Firewire.
