Can I Open Archived Address Book Without Deleting or Overwriting My Current Contacts?

Somehow some of my contacts are missing from my address book. I know they are in one of my archived address book files from one or two years ago.
The problem is, in order to find those lost contacts, I have to open the archived address book, which will delete my current contacts.
Is there any way to open the archived address book and pull out just the contacts that I need to add to my current address book and have my current address book remain in tact?
I’ve scoured the net for an answer. I knew if anyone would know it would be you.

I can think of lots of ways. Here's an easy one:
Create a new user account on your Mac. It should have an empty Address Book database. Open it there. Then just delete the user account when you are done.
Actually, I wonder if it will work if you simply logged in using the Guest user account. Then the account data will be deleted when you log out anyway so it saves you a step.
