How Do I Disconnect a Camera From My Mac?

How do I properly disconnect digital camera after transferring photos?
Unplugging my camera always gives an error message after disconnecting it.

    In the Finder sidebar, locate the camera. Click the eject button next to it. Wait a few seconds after it disappears. Then eject.
