How do you fade a subject in a clip, using green screen background? I would like to viewers to see the background for a few seconds, and then have the green screen subject slowly appear and then dissolve. Right now the transition looks jarring to have the subject appear and disappear rather than just dissolve on and off the screen.

When you add the green screen video as an overlay, it will appear in the timeline above the main video. Click that video in the timeline so it is outlined in yellow. Then look at that closely. At the top left and top right of the video is a small circle. You can drag the top left circle to the right. This is the fade-in time. So drag it to the right to add a fade-in, and the corresponding fade-out circle on the right moves to the left. If you hold the Option key, you can move the fade-in and fade-out independently.
