How Do I Keep Photos In Albums but Not Have Them Displayed In the Library?

Imac 27″ Catalina (10.15.7) late 2013: I am trying to hide photos that I have already added to particular albums so that I can easily search those non-“album-ized” photos.

For example: if I move 100 photos to a specific named album, I would want to those photos to be hidden/removed from all photos appearing in my Photo app’s Library so I don’t have to search through everything to select other photos to add to other albums.

The Library is, by definition, all of your photos. You will always see each photo there. You can't have a photo in your Photos library without it being in your Photos library.

There is no need to add every photo to an album. It is fine to have some photos in albums, and others not in any album.

But if you really want to do that for some reason, you can easily create a Smart Album that lists all of the photos not in any album. Just choose File, New Smart Album. Then set the criteria to Album - Is Not - Any. Now you have a way to see which photos you have not assigned to an album.

I tried setting criteria for a Smart Album to exclude any photo in any album: "Photo> is not> (I don't have a choice for "Any" or "Any Album).

    Your suggestions are welcomed.

TheTrainRev: It is "Album" "is not" "Any." So "Album" not "Photo" for the first item.
