Hi Gary, my iCloud account is full of old photos. How do I take them off my account to free some space? I followed a previous suggestion you gave, that was to create different libraries for every year of photos, but that was before I had my photos in iCloud.

You can still do basically the same thing. Only one library is your iCloud Library (AKA the "system library") so any photos you put in another library won't be in iCloud.
If you go that route, I would make sure you are backing up that external drive. You wouldn't want to lose those old photos if that drive fails.
