How Do I Type Words With Accents Without Having To Hold Down Keys?

I type the French name “Thérèse” frequently in documents, emails, etc, with the text set for English. If I type “Therese” it doesn’t come up with a spelling correction, so both forms are in the dictionary. How can I type the French version without constantly having to hold down the “e” and selecting the alternatives with various accents? This must be a common bug many users experience.

Use a text replacement. Go to System Preferences, Keyboard, Text. Use the + button to add a new replacement. Set it to replace "Therese" with "Thérèse." Now when you type it, it should convert it when you move on to the next word, like pressing the spacebar.
