How To More Clearly See Selected Text?

When I mark a word, sentence or chapter it is very hard to see which area you have actually marked! You only see a very very light blue colour in the background of the marked area, aiming to be adjusted in some way (delete, change font, add underlining, cut/paste, etc). This type of marking for adjustments is done in almost all application alike in mails, Word, Messages or Notes when fine-tuning of the text is needed.

When I used Windows earlier, I think this marking was much more clearly visible to me so I could verify the exact text being selected! Is there any way to make the selected area much more visible?

You can adjust this in System Preferences, General, Highlight color.

You can also adjust the contrast of your display in System Preferences, Accessibility, Display, Display and then check Increase Contrast or use the slider.

Tried out your first suggestion, but it seems to be an area with bugs! When changing the colour (to any other colour than blue) NO marking of the text is done at all when being selected! But the area in the side panel being marked will get the new chosen colour, alike in mail or messages. So I had to revert to the initial colour blue again, being able to mark text.

I am not using dark mode, but when quickly testing in this mode, it seems to work somewhat different/better.

You can click on "Other" in System Preferences> General and the System's color palette will come up. In the top left you will see the System's Color Wheel. Use the cross hairs to move around to determine the color that you need.

I tried the 'Other' option as well, but got the same result as for green, yellow, ... above. The text I mark is not colour marked, alike when I want to delete two words in a sentence. This only work with the colour blue, but you can hardly see the colour in the background.
