Since the iOS app store is the only legitimate source for apps on Apple’s mobile gear, is there any value in “security” apps such as Malwarebytes on iOS?

No. These apps can't even really check anything as the system is locked down and it can't access other apps. It seems all the iOS version does is block some phone spam and work as some sort of browser ad blocker. There are a lot of apps that try to block spam calls and they only work so-so. But that has little to do with any real system or anti-malware security. You just don't need it.
