Right-Size All Columns Individually In Finder Available In Catalina?

I use columns exclusively when in Finder. I was hoping that in Catalina there would be a way to right-size all columns individually ALL THE TIME without any input from me. Is this the case? And, if not, why has Apple not added this feature after all these years? Thanks.

You can Option+double click on the line between columns and it will right-size all of the columns. But there is no way to have that happen automatically.

I assume this is because as you move from folder to folder in column view the columns would then be changing sizes all the time. But you can speculate on why that isn't a feature. It could just be to prevent having a million features, which is always a concern for software designers. If you want this particular feature, then why not also add a million other features that other people want? So you end up with an unusable complex operating system.

There used to be an app called TotalFinder. One of its many features was the option to automatically open all columns to the right size. It was great, but wasn't updated to work with more recent Mac OSs. :(

In life you have either what you want or the reasons why you don’t. Don’t be persuaded to not follow your dreams. Put in a request for the features you want. When Apple sees the demand they will comply.

Can you please advise how to Right-Size All Columns Individually In Finder for Catalina but retaining the information permanently . I know how to do it once the columns are open but I would like it to be permanent so that the next time I open finder windows the column widths are remembered.
    Thankyou.

Paul: It wouldn't make sense to right-size permanently, as when looking at different folders you would have file names of different widths. So what is right-sized for one folder wouldn't be right-sized for another.
