What Is the Best Way/ways To Migrate Data From a 2011 iMac To a Brand New One?

I am getting a new 27″ iMac which will have Catalina on board and I need to migrate my data from my mid-2011 27″ iMac which is running High Sierra 10.13.6. Will be moving mostly data as the new iMac will have most of software on board already that I need. I will have to move Lightroom and Photoshop to the new iMac, too.

Do I need a Thunderbolt cable? I don’t know if the older Mac has a port for that. It does have ports for Ethernet. OR should I just use Time Machine? How I selectively restore to the new iMac?

I find the best way is just using Migration Assistant with your Time Machine backup. That way you don't need any special cable or anything.
