How To Remove Or Delete An Email Mailbox

Not even sure if I’m asking the right question. When I bought my MAC in July, the folks set me up with a gmail account as the official communication between Apple and me. Long story short, the email and the mail system never worked. I have since gotten a new email id for Apple and a new gmail account for myself. However, no matter what I do, I can’t get rid of the original email account – so every time I click on something to send from either a webpage or even a condolence to Apple on the loss of Steve Jobs, the wrong email account comes up. Please help. I’ve been to the Apple store twice and they can’t seem to fix it.

Have you tried running Mail, going to Mail, Preferences. Then Accounts. Then deleting the unused gmail account? That should do it.
