iPhone ringtones and iTunes 10

Can anyone verify something I read a bit earlier today in that the latest version of iTunes has removed the option to purchase ringtones for the iPhone?

I’m not yet upgrading to 10 as I like to see what, if any, kinks show up with early adapters.

That is correct. Did you use that feature?
I hated it. You had to pay an extra $0.99 to cut a slice of a song that you already owned and use it as a ringtone. You could already hear the whole song in high quality -- blast it from your house or car if you like -- but to hear a portion play through the external mono speaker, you needed to pay extra.
And you could only do it for a small selection of songs, too.
My guess is not many people used it, and it was a hassle for Apple to maintain.

No, I had never used it. I did, however, use some directions I found on the web to create one for myself within iTunes. And I have read of the ability to do such in Garageband, but have never tried.

Naturally, I saw your Tweet regarding the disappearance AFTER I posted this question. Go figure...
