Podcast Idea: How to Become an iPhone Developer

Hey Gary,

Well done on your podcast and things! I know a little bit of web-programming like php and similar, but I am completely lost when it comes to iPhone programming. I was wondering if you could do a podcast telling us how and what to do read / study to become a iphone developer. It would be great with a podcast to tell us how to start from scratch and learn. Where to learn and what to read?
Thanks

— Lars

Did you ever see the Monty Python episode where they made up a show called "How to do it?" For example, one segment was "how to play the flute" and it went like this:
"How to play the flute. Well here we are. You blow there and you move your fingers up and down here."
That illustrates the problem, you see?
To program the iPhone, you first have to learn how to program. I went to college and got a bachelor's degree in Computer Science to do that. Then, after 15 years of experience the iPhone came along and I had already done so much programming that picking up a new language and environment wasn't that hard.
But to give a general purpose podcast about "how to program the iPhone" would be tough. Some people wouldn't have any experience with programming, and others would be experts already. I can't give just one answer.
There are a lot of different books on iPhone programming because there are a lot of different teaching/learning styles. You can look at the books out there and see if any appeal to you and your previous programming experience. If you don't have previous programming experience, I wouldn't try to start with the iPhone. And I would also caution people that programming isn't something that everyone can do -- like drawing, engineering or playing the flute. Different people are good at different things. And you may just not like doing it.
That's about the best I can advise.
