I watched the video posted in you tube regarding the same topic but it is unclear and apparently skips steps. I am trying to access my external hard drive which is hooked up to my airport extreme. Not really clear about how to assign ip address to harddrive or which port to use. So if anyone can help me with step by step process I would greatly appreciate it.

If you just set it up in AirPort Utility, under Disks, under File Sharing, it is pretty straight-forward.
But getting a static IP address is something else entirely. It depends on your ISP.
