I am running OS X (10.10.5 Yosemite) on a mid 2011, 27″ iMac, and having all software updates current, running Safari as my browser. When I try and watch Netflix trailers, a dialog box comes up saying that Microsoft Silverlight is not installed. I go to the site, download MS Silverlight and click to install. The installation fails! I have done this at least 5 times (.5dmg). Every time it fails, I go to my uninstaller, uninstall the download (version), re-start and try again. Same result.
The Silverlight app also applies to some of the video’s I try and watch on MSN.com.
Any ideas?

How Do I Install Microsoft Silverlight?

Perhaps the most recent version of Silverlight requires El Capitan? Or, maybe your iMac is too old and it needs a new processor or video card? I'd look at the Microsoft support site for Silverlight to see if they mention anything.
We have the same issue and the workaround is using Firefox . Install Silverlight inside it and remember to change the extension setting to Always Activate.
