Your home folder name is tied into everything you do -- all your app preferences, documents, etc. You should only attempt to change it if you have a very very good reason and are willing to put a lot of work into it.
One way is to create a new user with the short name that you want. Short name = home folder name. Then transfer everything over to that new user. It can take a long time and you can still be finding things you forgot to copy over or applications that no longer work right even months later. Thanks for the reply. I think I might just leave it alone. I know how to work a computer good but not real deep down stuff.
