Hi Gary,
I recently started using an AppleScript to update my Podcasts while I sleep. However, I am not totally comfortable with leaving my AirPort running all night long. Is there an AppleScript to turn it on/off at a specific time?
Love your Podcast and book.

I assume you mean your Airport base station, right?
That would be very problematic -- it would need to run Airport Utility and run through a series of commands in it. I suppose it is possible, but difficult.
But why do you not want to leave your router running? As long as you have security (a password) set up on it, what are you worried about?
I'd like to prevent my son from playing xbox life all night... is there a way of turning airport off for him / restricting his access without changing the password every night or having to pull the plug?
thx for any suggestions!
That would need to be some function of the Airport Base Station itself -- and there isn't an function like that. One idea would be to use a simple old-fashioned lamp timer. The type that turn lamps on and off on a schedule. You could hook one up to your Airport Base Station or your modem and have it turn off at midnight or something, then turn on again in the morning.
You might want to look into using something like http://opendns.com (see episode 453) to restrict access to a specific site (something critical to XBox). But I don't think there is a timer associated with it.
Thanks Gary, I will try the timer!
