I tried Apple forums and it gave me Apple support instructions to go to iCloud list and click “edit”. The go to – sign and click it. That did not work on a card in “MY MAC” and it did not even show a – in the card on the iCloud. So no way to delete a birthdate, or even edit it.

How Do I Delete a Birthdate From a Contacts Card?

If the birthday is one you created or edited that card in the Contacts app, then you just go to that contact, edit the contact, and press the red button next to the birthday to deleted it.
If that isn't working, then perhaps the birthdays aren't coming from there. Perhaps you have turned on Facebook as an account and those birthdays are coming from there. You can turn off Facebook contacts by going to System Preferences, Accounts and looking for that Facebook account. There may be the option to simply disable contacts for Facebook. Or, you can just disable Facebook by removing that account entirely.
Your instruction does not work. It is the same as the Apple support. I do not use Facebook and all of the birthdates on my calendar are ones I originally placed there. The edit function simply does not allow me to do anything with the birthdate. Thanks anyway.
Dwight: You didn't mention that you don't use Facebook, so I assumed it could be that because it is a common cause of this issue.
So you are telling me that when you go to a contact and there is a birthday, and you press the Edit button, there aren't little red dots next to the data in that contact?
