How Do I Delete And/or Add Photos To the Desktop In System Preferences?

The Desktop Photos folder does not exist under the Library folder. Where is it?I would like to delete a number of useless photos in the desktop and screen saver.

There are too many unusable photos in my Desktop Photos and I would like to delete them.

Not sure what you are looking for in your first question. The Desktop folder is either in your Home folder or iCloud Drive, not your Library folder. But I don't think that is what you are asking anyway. It has nothing to do with Desktop Pictures in System Preferences.

To set your own photo as a Desktop background, there are many ways. One is to simply bring up System Preferences, Desktop & Screensaver, Desktop and then drag and drop any photo you want to the image at the top left. You can also use the list on the left to access your Photos library, or any folder you add there. Use the + button to add more locations to look for. But this is just a convenience as you can drag and drop any file anyway.

As for deleting photos, do you mean the ones in the first section under "Apple?" You can't delete any here as those are part of the system. Just ignore them.

    See https://macmost.com/mac-basics-changing-your-desktop-background.html for a tutorial.

Thanks Gary. I'm running Catalina and I want to delete my own photos that have show up in the desktop photos. They were taken with my iPhone and were somehow transferred to my iMac. The old OSX was great because the Desktop Photos were in the Library folder and I could add and delete as much as i wanted to. Now? I am confused. As to iCloud? It sucks and I don't use it. And I can't find it on my iMac. I've tried deleting photos from my iPhone. Apple really has us by the short and curlies.

Peter: Is you concern that you see your own photos in System Preferences, Desktop & Screen Saver? If so, just know that it is only showing you a link to your photos in the Photos app. You can just ignore them. It is just there as a convenience. You don't need to select them.
