Used hide my email for the first time the other day to make an online purchase. The item needs to be returned and I just now received an email from the merchant regarding same.
I hit the “return” button and my real email attaches. I use the data arrows to see if I can select the HME choice and it does not appear. I’ve tried to erase those email suggestions and place the HME given to me without any success.
How do I maintain my hidden email address in replying to an email?
What’s the purpose of a “hidden email address” if it only works once? So thinking there is a way!

You can't. You can only send an email from a real valid email address. The idea with Hide My Email is to use it when filling in web forms or creating IDs for sites and services. So the official address they have on file for you is that special one. Any marketing emails they send will be to that, and if they sell your email address, it would be that.
If you are going to correspond directly with them with regular email, then you'll be using your real address in that correspondence. But that shouldn't change your account with the service. Someone on the other end is going to change your account ID to that new email address. No one puts that effort in. And even if they did, they would probably want to stick with the first one anyway since that is obviously your preference.
Hide My Email isn't some CIA-level spy-craft. It is just a handy way to give yourself a little more privacy.
So much for my into to spy work.
Since the original question I've received 3 other emails from that company answering them X2 with my "real" email. All their emails come back to me as a return email, but not with my out going real email, but my original hidden email. I guess that's what you're describing? Anyways, thanks for the info.
You can use simplelogin.io which has an app and web frontend.
