How Do I Create a Strikethrough Keyboard Shortcut In the TextEdit App?

How can I add a keyboard shortcut for the TextEdit app to add a strikethrough of text?

I see this question online with no clear answer. For me (and others), the use of strikethrough makes workflows more manageable to eliminate, not delete, items that have been completed but still need to be visually referenced. While in a new window to create text, there is the ability to Command+T to get to the Fonts window, then using the 3rd dropdown from the left and selecting Single or Double, but there is no keyboard shortcut outlined.

You can't. There needs to be a command in the Menu Bar for you to add a custom keyboard shortcut and there isn't one.

But you can use Styles to do it. Click on the button in the toolbar that is all the way to the left. Looks like a Paragraph mark. This is the Styles menu. You can select some text, like something with a strike through, and then use this and the Add To Favorites to add it. Then you can access it from here again. Not a keyboard shortcut, but easier.

You can also use Edit, Font, Copy/Paste Style as another way to get this done if you like. And those have keyboard shortcuts.

Gary, thank you! I did not understand at first because the Paragraph mark was not visible. After I manually adjusted the window size I was able to see it appear. I changed the default New Window size in Settings from 96 characters wide to 110 to be able to show enough icons on the toolbar, including the Paragraph icon. The remainder of your instructions worked perfectly though the Styles window is visually confusing.
