Playing MKV file 1080p bluray movie from MBP on HDTV?

I have a movie on my Macbook Pro that is a 1080p / x264.mkv file type. Is there any way to play it on my home theater TV in full resolution?

First, do you have a video player on your Mac that plays .mkv files? If not, get one. Just search for "mac video mkv" and a bunch come up.
Then, you'd probably want to get ad HDMI adapter for your Mac. Depends which MacBook Pro version you have. The most recent ones use Mini Displayport. So get an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort adapter.
