I am running Macromedia FreeHand v. 10.6.5 on my MacBook Pro. I am using Extensis Suitcase as a font manager. Deactivated fonts are displaying in the font menu in FreeHand. This does not happen in any of my other applications. How do I get only activated fonts to display in FreeHand? Thanks.

Sounds like a bug with Extensis Suitcase. Have you contacted their support? Have you tried using OS X's built-in Font Book application to handle it instead?
Yes, I tried OS X's Font Book and it didn't work either. In fact, using Font Book, deactivated fonts were displaying not only in Freehand, but in PhotoShop and Word also. Can the problem be in the FreeHand application?
It might be Freehand. Wasn't it discontinued in favor or Illustrator?
