I use Numbers at home and know my way around it pretty well but have to use Excel for Mac (08) at work. In Excel, I can’t figure out how to create a column with a total at the bottom that I could continue to add data to without leaving a bunch of empty cells. In Numbers I would add a footer row and sum the column. Can I do this in Excel? Or if I create the spreadsheet in Numbers and then open it in Excel will that still work? Basically I have figures in one column because I need to total them both in categories and then all together but I will be adding figures to this on an ongoing basis. Can’t figure out how to do this on Excel! Any help would be much appreciated!

Numbers & Excel for Mac transferability

It has been a while since I used Excel, but I'm sure it does this automatically. For instance, if you have rows 1 through 10 with numbers, and row 11 is the sum of 1 through 10, and then you insert a new row after 10 then it will automatically change row 11 (now 12) to include the whole range. Try it.
You are right, it does that. But that means I have to keep inserting new rows (where in Numbers I just enter and it does it for me), when I'm trying to do data entry that is cumbersome. I'm also not sure if it will update all the formulas that were tied to the total cell throughout the sheet. Thanks anyway!
I am so disgusted. Have new iPad and purchased numbers. All I can do is enter numbers
I can do sums, but I can not do any operations between cells,or get any functions to work.
Would anyone share some sample numbers spread sheets where something other than adding columns is involved
If I can get started, I can program this beast as I developed very complex engineering programs once upon a time, but thus far,it has whipped my butt.
Many thanks for any help

Perhaps watching episode 398 (http://macmost.com/creating-forms-in-ipad-numbers.html) will help.
Oh, and also I have a few examples of exactly what you want to know in the book: http://macmost.com/j-myipad2
