One of the hottest rumors of the last year has been that Apple is working on a television product. While it already has the set-top box known as Apple TV, a television would be a screen with similar functionality or an even more advanced user interface and remote control.
Do you think Apple should create such a product? And if so, what features would you like it to have?
Should Apple Create a Television?

No. The market is already flooded with TV sets.
I believe the TV model will be the same as the iTunes model. Get the providers to sell subscriptions through the current Apple TV model.
Apple would do it better or they would not do it at all
Only if they do what Apple does best. Rewrite the manual. If Apple can come up with a better idea then sure, Apple should create a TV. But can the manual be rewritten? At what cost to have a range of different size TV's? The beauty of Apple TV (as we have seen so far,) is that it can be plugged into your existing TV, therefore making the overall idea so much cheaper. Imagine the price if a panel was added to Apple TV.
No! They've already got AppleTV. And it has great room for improvement.
I would love them to bring out a convertible Tv and IMac, it would save me space in a small office, Perhaps have a window in a corner of the screen so I could pay bills, do routine tasks, and watch my games all at the same time. I would like Siri with it as well, I would buy 3, office , family room, bedroom. 4 sizes, 28 to 34,
36 to 42", 46 to 52", and the last one 55 to 70. Would do me nicely, like it to
operate all my APPS of course. Skip the 3D, wait. bring on the Holograms .
Hey Bill, Buy a Mac Mini and plug it into the TV. Apart from "paying bills in the corner etc." which you could not do. You would have you TV and Mac in one device!
Yes, I think they should run the world. lol....they do need some customer service though....It has fallen dramatically over the years.
I'm curious as to why you think that is the case. Their Genius Bar is so far ahead of everyone else. Who else offers that kind of free hands-on help?
I would see no reason for Apple to create a TV. There is very little profitability in TV sets as it is and Apple already has it's Apple TV. I would expect however that if they did create a "TV" it would not really be a "TV", but a monitor. The path that Apple is heading down is to move all content to the cloud, that being stated, if they created a monitor that allowed you to do everything that you currently do on your computer then I could see them creating a "TV". Imagine not needing a computer, but using your "TV" for all of your computing needs as well as viewing all of your entertainment content. All it really will take is to make a monitor with some computing power and viola! You now have an Apple TV. There are several game systems that are now on the market that allow you to play games without a gaming console like the PS3 or Xbox. I don't expect Apple to make a TV, but if they do it will integrate all aspects of computing, gaming, and entertainment.
Ron.
A TV is a TV --- no big deal!
I live in England, and it would never get off the ground. For to have a TV in England to receive the signal from the BBC costs you £145 every year. The other stations are subsidised by adverts, but you still have to pay the £145. It was discussed in Parliament about just having the other channels without the BBC,but the bill was tossed out. Apple has no chance.
As STRETCH says: "Only if they do what Apple does best. Rewrite the manual. If Apple can come up with a better idea then sure, Apple should create a TV. But can the manual be rewritten? At what cost to have a range of different size TV’s? No They still have not work out problems from before..
Garry may be right at this point, however, the hologram idea is awsome and has obvious potential.
Sure, why not? Its a free country! But it would probably have to come from a not so free country, correct? Why can't we in America get it right? We just keep pricing ourselves out of the market, as far as labor cost go that is.
Nope! There are plenty of big players in television manufacturing. Also the Apple TV is not a big seller either. Great in principle if you live in U.S. but the rest of the world is ho-hum.
From my understanding they will be wasting resources.
Global standardisation would be better. ie my sisters iPhone in Philippines has no facetime and will not work with an asian account.
Firms like Apple must have a continuing stream of new and exciting products. In Apple's case, new products MUST be extraordinary in style and function. We need a TV offering full web surfing. Apple needs to expand the product line. They have the funds to purchase an existing TV manufacturer and the technical expertise to develop a line of revolutionary TV's offering more than simple viewing pleasure ... whole-house alarm systems, decorative wall displays ... very large screens ... voice activated controls, etc.
I have just seen (November 2012) an advertisement for an Android dongle that plugs in via HDMI to your TV. It appears "they" have caught up and may have got one step ahead. But still using the tv panel that you already have.....
You can get such an adapter for Macs, the iPad and the iPhone. And the Mac mini comes with a built-in HDMI port. So what are you saying, exactly?
Hi Gary, I trust you are talking of TV dongles so you can watch TV on your Mac etc. The android dongle I wrote of is the android equivalent of Apple TV, (watching downloaded movies etc on your TV.) The dongle being much smaller than an Apple TV. I would love Apple TV to be able to get (selected) pay TV channels, more than just NHL & MBL, which have little relevance to us Australians. This may be the future?
