Seems like there are too many steps to simply AirDrop a file from your Mac. So here are three methods that can bring that down to fewer steps for those that use AirDrop often.

A new feature in Pixelmator Pro (version 3.5.8) is the ability to edit text in PDF documents. This could be useful, depending on the type of PDF documents you deal with.

You can now select non-contiguous text in Pages by holding down the Command key and selecting characters, words or paragraphs. You can then apply changes to all of the selected text or delete that text.

You can use the FORECAST function to predict values given a list of numbers. You can use this for business forecasts or just for home budgeting and other things.

You can use the say command in the Terminal to turn an article, report or other document into spoken text audio if you need to listen to something rather than read it.

You can use Undo in almost any app and other situations to take back changes and additions. But how far back does Undo go? And in what situations does it not work?

The symbol was picked by Steve Jobs to replace the Apple keys for the original Mac. It has a history that goes back before computers though. You can type it if you know a little something about that history.

If you want to include the full path to the document in Pages when printing or making a PDF, you can add it to the header or footer, or use the watermark function. But first you'll need a way to get the path as text.

If you have a Mac that is too old to be used for work today, what can you do with it besides recycling it?

The best way to protect yourself against online scams is to learn about how they work so you'll recognize them.

The path bar at the bottom of Finder windows allows you to see the path to the current selection and also allows you to perform a number of actions on all of the folders in that path. The status bar shows the number of items selected, the number of items in the folder and the amount of space remaining on your drive.

There's not much new in Sonoma 14.4. But we do get the same Podcast transcript features that are in iOS 17.4, even if they don't seem to work as well. We also get new Emoji and a small new thing in Safari.

Take a look at some of the new features like follow-along Podcast transcripts and new Emoji. (17.4 also allows for new things for EU users, like alternative app stores and web browsers, though none exist yet).

Printing or making PDF documents from Freeform boards doesn't work very well. It is hard t tell what will fit on a page without any borders, and the margins are huge and there doesn't seem to be a way to make them much smaller. But there are ways to make it work.

Keyboard Maestro allows you to use the Command, Option and Control keys on the right side of your Mac keyboard as single-key shortcuts if you know how to set it up right. I'll also show you how to use Text Replacements without leaving an extra space or return after.

In a recent video I showed 3D animated layers for illustrating how the Desktop on the Mac works. Here's how I created those 3D animations.

Instead of using copy and paste, or a Duplicate command, you can often hold the Option key down and drag items in apps to duplicate them. This has the advantage of allowing you to duplicate and position the new item at the same time.

2/17/24

If you need to copy some text or even an image from a file, you don't necessarily need to open the file up in an app. Often Quick Look can be used to find and copy file contents.

You can set the screenshot format to something other than png using a simple Terminal command. Some screenshots will save you storage space, but scarfing quality.

I've been working on adding an exciting new feature to ClipTools, an editor window. You can use this to view your clips, saved clips and Smart Clips. You can also edit them and paste them directly from this window. You can use it to assign any Smart Clip its own global keyboard shortcut.
