How Can I Stop “Mackeeper” From Popping Up?

I keep getting Mackeeper showing up on my Safari home page. I never downloaded it, but apparently it has infiltrated my system and I do not know enough to get rid of it. When it pops up, I cancel and do not download it, but it shows up again almost daily. Any help out there?

It sounds like you either did download it, perhaps disguised as something or inside something else. Or, you downloaded and installed something at some point gave you some adware -- and that adware is currently pushing MacKeeper on you.

Any way it is happening, you need to get rid of it. Your best bet is to take it to a Genius Bar or another Mac expert. This needs to be diagnosed as there are many possibilities as to where this malware you have could be hiding and you want to make sure it is off your system.

If taking it to an expert is impossible, one thing that others try is to get Mac Malwarebytes, the free version. Run it once and it will hopefully find and fix the problem, and when you are done uninstall it. But I recommend going to an expert instead if at all possible,
