How Do I Bypass “Swipe To Open” On an iPad 2?

I have an older iPad, second generation. I think the touch screen is getting worn out. The iPad works OK for what I need it for. Sometimes the swipe to open works, but it usually takes 20 to 30 swipes, rotating from landscape to portrait view, and repeatedly having to hit the home button 3 to 6 times for the next swipe try. This is especially embarrassing when trying to show someone photos on the iPad.

Is there a way to turn the iPad on and go straight to Password?

Thank You,

Ed

I don't believe there is any way to bypass that step. On newer iPads you would use Touch ID and never get the slide to unlock. But that wasn't available for the iPad 2. You are stuck with the old version of iOS (9, I think) and I don't think there is any other way.

I've never heard of an iPad failing in this way. Does that area of the screen also cause trouble after unlocking? If so, then I guess it is a physical defect. If not, then it may be possible to fix it with a complete wipe and re-install of the OS. You may want to try a visit to the Genius Bar and have them access it. If it is a software issue, maybe you can get simple and free fix. If not, at least you know not to expect to much from the iPad while it lasts.
