How Do I Copy and Paste From Reminders?

Since upgrading to Catalina I can no longer select an item or items, copy them, and then paste into an app like TextEdit or Pages. The select and copy function seem to work but the paste function does not work anywhere. It is hard to believe that Apple would delete this function from an Apple program. I have over 200 reminders in the app and sometimes I just want to select the most current 10 or 20 scheduled to print out and carry with me. The print function also is disabled but I believe it was also disabled in Mojave. Reminders is a great program for me but it is virtually useless if I can’t print out a selected list.

NOTE: I’ve posted a video episode showing you how to use a script to get your Reminders as text so you can copy and paste or print them. — Gary

That's right. There is no way to do it in the Reminders app. Not sure if it is a bug in the new app, or the feature has yet to be added after recent changes. Make sure you let Apple know you want this at https://www.apple.com/feedback/

In the meantime, one workaround is to go to the web app at iCloud.com and copy from there. It takes a little doing, and sometimes you have to try a few times to select the text you want, but I have tried it and it does work.

    Thanks, Gary
I appreciate the follow-up. I kind of suspected that was the answer. I sure hope it's a bug because if it was a feature removed, it would, in my opinion, be a real mistake. I will send feedback to Apple.

I also have this issue, and was told that AppleScript can be used to "show" and "print" specific reminder lists but I have no idea how to execute this.

My solution is to use Calendar for key reminders. However, I have no where near 200 reminders — sounds like you need a professional app like 2do, Things3 for Mac, Omnifocus, Todoist, Wunderlist, GoodTask, Remember the Milk, ….

JP thanks for the suggestions. Actually reminders works perfectly. I just put the date In front of entry in Reminders. It then creates a schedule in the order I want to be reminded. The problem is I want to copy and paste selected reminders which I cannot do.I too have no idea how to do it with AppleScript. Hopefully it’s just a bug which they will fix but thanks again for your input.

    Hi Steve,

Most GTD apps automatically import tasks from Reminders, and therefore print but beware as some can only import a single list. I spoke to a Unix colleague (as macOS is unix), and she suggested using Terminal; specifically "keith/reminders-cli" to interact with Reminders. You type "reminders show Home >> ~/xyz.txt" The >> ~/xyz.txt will import reminders from the list, and write it to a file. You will need Xcode and brew.sh installed, and I have no idea of how it prints.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I agree, for me the reminders app is worthless if I can't print. My workaround is to screen capture the items I want and then print.
